PTFE Laminated Triple Offset Valve Seals
Sealing Solutions for Corrosive Media
The PTFE Laminated TOSV Seal is specifically engineered for applications involving saltwater, aggressive chemicals, and corrosive media.
Designed for the marine, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries, these seals utilise the low-friction properties of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) to provide a 100% seal in all directions. They are an essential component for systems where graphite may not be chemically compatible or where the highest levels of corrosion resistance are required.

Material Construction for Marine and Chemical Resistance
Our PTFE seals follow the same rigorous five-ply laminate structure that defines the Richard Miles product range.
This construction consists of alternating layers (Alloy / PTFE / Alloy / PTFE / Alloy) to ensure the seal maintains its shape and performance under pressure.
The standard material specification for these seals includes:
- Metal Layers: 1mm Alloy 316 Stainless Steel, chosen for its excellent resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion in chloride environments.
- Sealing Layers: 1mm PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene), providing near-universal chemical resistance and an extremely low coefficient of friction.
This combination of Stainless 316 and PTFE makes these seals ideal for seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO), desalination plants, and offshore marine applications.

Operational Performance and Temperature Range
While graphite is the choice for extreme heat, PTFE offers exceptional performance in a specific temperature window.
Our PTFE laminated seals are rated for service from +260°C (+500°F) down to cryogenic temperatures. This makes them a versatile solution for cold-chain chemical processing and low-temperature gas handling.
We manufacture these seals in sizes ranging from 2 inches (50mm) up to 24 inches (600mm), with bespoke sizes available upon request.
To ensure total quality control and compliance with industrial standards, every seal features laser-etched batch traceability on the outermost metal layer.

Frictionless Torque-Seated Technology
The core advantage of the Richard Miles PTFE seal lies in the triple offset geometry.
In traditional valve designs, the seal rubs against the seat throughout its travel, leading to wear and potential failure. Our triple offset design ensures that the seal and seat only make contact at the final point of closure.
The inclusion of PTFE further enhances this performance by providing a low-friction interface. This aids in operator adjustment and allows for a torque-seated seal that requires less force to achieve a complete shutoff.
All seals are supplied fully machined to your specific drawings, including both round and elliptical circumferences, and are validated via Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) before delivery.
Why Specify Richard Miles PTFE Laminated Triple Offset Valve Seals?
Procurement engineers and maintenance managers choose Richard Miles Ltd because of our focus on intelligent engineering and quality assurance.

As a member of the British Valve & Actuator Association (BVAA), we adhere to the highest standards of manufacturing. Our seals are not generic components: they are precision instruments designed to extend the life of your valves and reduce the risk of costly system downtime.
The combination of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) and premium alloys ensures that our seals maintain their structural integrity in saltwater conditions and other demanding environments. This near-universal chemical resistance is critical where leakage is not an option.
